Legend has it that many years ago, the Vikings were rumoured to be coming to Hereford to ransack the town. Led by the infamous Eric Bloodaxe, the Vikings had sailed up the Severn and Wye rivers, striking fear into the hearts of the Herefordian monks. In response, the monks gathered their most precious manuscripts and chalices and hid them in a secret location that has never been found.

Recently, a map was discovered in the rafters of an old house in High Town, believed to lead to the hiding place of the lost treasures. And now, it's up to YOU, our modern-day explorers, to embark on a quest to unearth the old manuscripts and chalices. Are you ready to put your thinking caps on, think like the Vikings, and solve the mystery of the hidden treasures?

The Vikings are Coming! Treasure Hunt Through Hereford

Grab your family and friends and get ready for an exciting self-guided treasure hunt around Old Hereford. As you follow the trail, you'll need to use your best clue-solving skills to crack the riddles and discover the location of the buried treasure.

The circular route starts at Merton Meadow Car Park, near the football ground, and takes you through parts of the city that are rarely visited by tourists, as well as crossing Commercial Road, which is known for its shops and pubs. You'll even get a glimpse of High Town, where the map was originally found.
