Local retired solicitor, Lady Laura Norder, has spent the last decade researching her family tree. With the advancements in DNA profiling, she has strong evidence to suggest that she is a distant relative of the infamous pirate, Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard. According to historical evidence, before his final battle, Blackbeard threw overboard a bottle containing important legal documents that could prove Norder's family heritage and lead to an inheritance claim on his treasure. The bottle washed up on a small island off the coast of North Carolina, where a Spanish missionary buried it for safekeeping. Norder now has a map that purports to the bottle's location, but it contains several local clues that must be solved first.
